HARRIET and SCOTT | HUBERT ESTATE

Some weddings hit me like a lightening strike.

Joined by their young son, Ruben, Harriet and Scott married at Hubert Estate in the Yarra Valley, Melbourne. The energy all day was electric and I felt there was not dry eye in the room; tears of happiness and abundant love surrounded the couple. The meaning of commitment evolves and changed through our life-stages and it's an honour to witness each couples unique wedding vows.

On the morning of their wedding, I was ecstatic when Harriet showed me her wedding dress. I posted this Rachel Gilbert dress to my Instagram Stories a few months ago with the caption, "pretty please would one of my brides wear this". Harriet had chosen the dress!

Harriet wore her Riccardo Gown by Rachel Gilbert with chic French ballet slippers by Essen the Label. I love how her bouquet by Salt Flower was restrained with anthuriums and amaranthus. To me with all the volume of her skirt, choosing a minimalist bouquet, shoes and veil was the perfect editorial choice!. Harriet’s bridesmaids wore AJE and Scott had a suit custom made by P.Johnson; the best of Australian design and tailoring.

Thank you Harriet and Scott for inviting me to capture your special day. It was a joy to photograph you both with Ruben and your families.

WHEN AND WHERE DID YOU GET ENGAGED?

Harriet: We pick blueberries with Scott's family every year at a beautiful little family-run farm. The bushes grow on a hillside that looks across a valley to forest. It's a very special family tradition and we get excited to go each year. Scott waited until the we'd picked enough for the year (15kgs!), at which point someone always pulls out a camera and starts taking candid family snaps. When Scott's mum and sister started photographing, he asked if we were all done, I said "yes," he said "good," then got down on one knee.

WHAT DOES MARRIAGE MEAN TO YOU?

Harriet: Marriage, to us, means a chance to declare and celebrate our love and our commitment to building our family's future together.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO GET MARRIED WHERE YOU DID?

Harriet: We went to Hubert Estate for lunch, loved it, and impulsively booked it. Great food, great space. Why not?

What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day?

Harriet: A really happy memory of ours was walking through fields in Slovenia with Scott's family. Wildflowers grow everywhere there, and we wanted to bring an element of this family history to the wedding day. These flowers were the starting point to the colour palette of white, lemon and green.

SOURCES OF INSPIRATION?

The classics; Instagram and Pinterest, plus a few romantic memories of travelling together.

Tell us about your outfits

Harriet: Scott wanted something cut a bit differently from the classic groom's suit. The pieces are all things that will be worn again and again in different ways.

I was also looking for something that was traditional but playful at the same time for the ceremony. The final selection wasn't what she expected to fall in love with, but it felt fun and right and she can't wait to show her friends and family!

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR OTHER COUPLES PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Harriet: Booking vendors early makes a BIG difference to make sure you get the pieces you need to create that special day. Don't over think it. Trust your gut, and if you have a good feeling, follow it.
